Australian Resorts - Dunk Island North Queensland

Dunk Island is simply one of Australia’s most beautiful rainforest islands. And while it’s a great spot to relax there’s plenty to do - go snorkelling, take a jet ski tour, water ski, parasail, go fishing, hit the gym, visit the Artist’s Colony, have a round of golf, take a walk in the rainforest, get in a game of tennis or squash. Accommodation

There’s a range of options. The Bayview Suites have excellent views over Brammo Bay and direct access to the beach. They are bright and spacious with King beds and a luxurious bathroom. They are split-level (the sleeping level up and the living area down) and are in small groups of four units (two upstairs and two down). Double glass doors lead to a large L-shaped balcony. Amenities include fully-stocked mini bar, CD player and bathrobes.

The Beachfront Rooms have filtered views over the bay from most rooms and there’s easy access to the beach through the tropical garden. Upstairs rooms have a balcony and downstairs rooms have a patio that leads to the gardens and the beach. These are also split level with separate living and sleeping areas. The Garden Cabanas are in groups of four and are set in tropical gardens a short stroll from the central complex, resort facilities and beach.

The Banfield Rooms are also set in the gardens a stroll away and are comfortable and spacious.

Dining

The main restaurant is Beachcomber and it specialises in fresh, tropical cuisine. On Friday night there’s a seafood buffet and carvery, Tuesday night has a Mediterranean buffet and on other nights there’s a 3-course table d’hote menu that changes daily.

Breakfasts and dinners are included in the tariff. EJ’s On The Deck is ideal for lunch with a modern brasserie style menu.

For drinks there’s the Plantation Bar, overlooking the beachfront pool, and there’s nightly entertainment. The Cascade Pool Bar serves drinks and light snacks from 11am to 4:30pm and BB’s On The Beach is a beach style café for lunch and snacks. Occasionally there may be poolside gourmet barbeques or Asian buffet nights and there’s a choice of three picnic lunch menus.

Getting There

There are regular flights from Cairns to Dunk with Macair (30 minute flight) or a drive/launch option from Cairns Airport is available (3 hours including 30 minutes on the launch).
