The Honeymoon Resorts Of Fiji

There are literally dozens of resorts spread around Fiji and most of them offer the facilities and services you would expect from quality tropical resorts.

While we have visited many of them and can arrange holidays to any of them, we have selected only a handful of resorts, including the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi. The Tanoa is only a few minutes from the airport with 24-hour shuttle buses so it’s handy for people who arrive on a late night flight or depart on an early one. The Tanoa’s facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, bar and a 24 hour restaurant, so there’s plenty to keep you occupied. A stay here may also suit couples planning to marry as it is close to the registry office (couples must apply for a marriage license in person prior to their wedding). A tanoa, by the way, is the carved wooden bowl used to serve kava.

Fifteen minutes from Nadi, on Denarau Island are the Sheraton Fiji, the Sheraton Villas and the Sheraton Royal. While these properties may suit couples for their entire stay, they may also suit for a wedding venue before flitting off by helicopter from Denarau to islands in the Mamanucas or down to the Coral Coast to other resorts for a separate honeymoon.

On the Coral Coast we have chosen The Warwick, which has recently been refurbished and represents excellent value and the Shangri-La Fijian. While the Fijian is a large resort that caters for families it has excellent facilities, a large choice of bars and restaurants and a few very romantic bures (I can vouch for this because I stayed in one of them all by myself and there was certainly something/someone missing!)

In the Mamanuca island group we have selected Castaway Island, a relaxed, fun island and Matamanoa Island, which has a no children policy and a good choice of accommodation styles. (Nearby is the island where the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away was filmed). We also have Tokoriki Island, a lovely resort where the diving is superb (I did my PADI Open Water dive course there).

On the northern island of Taveuni, we have opted for Taveuni Island Resort, partly because of the diving (the currents produce magnificent soft coral - most in the Mamanucas is hard coral) but also because of the pool, the romantic bures, the ambience and proximity to places like Bouma Falls.

South of Viti Levu is Vatulele Island Resort the ultimate in barefoot luxury. No money changes hands here - everything (including unlimited French champagne) is included in the cost - simply everything you could dream of for a romantic break and more.

Finally, for those wanting something a bit different, there are Blue Lagoon Cruises that leave from Lautoka. Before going on one of these I agreed with the thought that boats were basically prisons (size of the cabins), with a chance of drowning, but Blue Lagoon changed my mind. Cruising is limited to around 4 hours a day so there’s a lot of time on land or in the water with luxury accommodation waiting at night. They do 3 and 6 night cruises. An idea that may suit some couples is to do the 3-night cruise in conjunction with a longer resort stay.
