The Honeymoon Resorts Of Samoa
There are a number of excellent accommodation properties in Samoa but we have selected just four (and a bit) that will suit couples looking for a romantic break.
On the main island of Upolu we have chosen the Aggie Grey’s Lagoon Beach & Spa Resort, Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa and Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa. On the island of Savai’i, we like Siufaga Beach Resort… and ‘the bit’? We also love Tanu Beach Fales for a taste of real Samoa where you sleep on a mattress on the floor of an open fale by the beach. We recommend a night here if you go to Savai’i but also that you perhaps retain your other accommodation (or leave your luggage with reception) and travel light. We can book this for you or you can decide after arriving. The cost for accommodation, dinner and breakfast is $50 tala per night (that’s around AUD$25!).
The above resorts lend themselves to excellent combinations. Email us with a bit of info about yourselves and we will come up with an itinerary to suit your needs and budget.
Our choices for honeymoon resorts in Samoa are:
Aggie Grey’s Lagoon Beach Resort & Spa
Opened in 2005 ‘new Aggie’s’ is a fabulous resort and it will only get better. At the time of writing the golf course was near completion and 35 overwater bungalows are planned but the facilities in place so far are first class. There are 140 air-conditioned rooms looking out across the water to Savai’i island. There’s an excellent restaurant, cocktail bar, pool with swim-up bar, huge range of watersports (diving, sailing, fishing, canoeing, jet skis etc), and a stunning Day Spa for pampering massages. We have also arranged two Honeymoon Beach options with the resident watersports people, AquaSamoa. Couples can be taken by speedboat to their own private island with white sand beach and be left with a gourmet picnic, cold drinks and a radio phone in case of emergencies and be picked up later in the day at a designated time. There’s also a beautiful 100-year-old chapel – this isn’t a ‘resort’ chapel but a working church and the only resort in the Pacific that can have Catholic weddings on site. The resort is five minutes from the International airport, five minutes from the wharf for the ferry to Savai’i (takes 90 minutes) and about half an hour from Apia – it’s a pretty drive that gives a good insight into village life and Apia can be quite lively at night but don’t miss the spectacular fia fia at the resort on Thursdays ‘New Aggie’s also has excellent specials (e.g. Stay 7 nights Pay 5 nights with all-inclusive meals). For those who would like to experience a night or two in Apia, we can arrange a combination with the original and famous Aggie’s (a wonderful colonial experience in Apia’s best hotel).
Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa
The ‘catch phrase’ used by the resort is “Simply Sinalei” and Sinalei is simply stunning. Set in 33 acres of lush gardens on the picture-postcard south coast of Upolo (45 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Apia with a complimentary shuttle) there are just 27 charming fales. There are two restaurants (the chef is excellent), a swimming pool, golf course, tennis, Day Spa and watersports (swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and diving). There’s a deep blue hole just off the end of the pier that invites guests to jump in for a swim and a snorkel. The beachfront fales are superb with an enclosed atrium with outdoor shower and large deck looking out to the ocean - and there is one Honeymoon Pool Villa that is exquisite. Both the resort and manager, Sose Alexander, exude casual elegance and from the moment you arrive, you feel special. There are bonuses for honeymooners like massages, bubbly and an upgrade to the next room category (subject to availability) and Stay Pay specials. You will leave Sinalei with so many special memories… could be a sunset cruise, visiting the village next door or simply doing nothing in style. I asked one honeymooner how she was enjoying her stay and tears of joy ran down her cheeks as she searched for superlatives.
Coconuts Beach Club Resort & Spa
‘Coconuts’ is another quality resort on the south coast (near Sinalei). While both suit honeymooners, they have a different atmosphere and ‘feel’. Without putting Sinalei down in any way, there’s arguably more a feeling of ‘fun’ at Coconuts. The resort offers various types of accommodation, from spacious Garden Suites and Tree House Rooms, to Fales and Villas directly on the beach and the only overwater bungalows in Samoa. All suites, rooms and fales are finished in fine, local materials and feature both air conditioning and ceiling fans, coffee/tea making facilities, electronic in-room safes, hairdryers and mini-refrigerator.
The Coco Beach Spa at Coconuts offers a full range of massage, therapy and beauty treatments, all performed by internationally trained personnel. There also heaps of activities (surfing, diving, tours) or just relax, unwind and enjoy the resort.
Suifaga Beach Resort
Siufaga (pronounced Siufanga) is the most up-market resort on Savai’i and our pick for couples wanting romance and luxury (at an affordable price!). Chances are the island of Upolu will be the most laid-back place you have ever been to… until you get to Savai’i where the pace is even slower. The resort is located at stunning Faga Beach (you won’t believe the colour of the water) and it has a range of accommodation with the ‘superior’ fales ideal for couples – comfortable, tastefully furnished with very nice external coral shower. The owner is an Italian doctor and his Samoan family, which explains the restaurant. Parenzo’s Restaurant has well-priced pasta dishes and whole lobster from $40 (Samoan!) depending on the size. Eat on the upstairs balcony overlooking the turquoise waters.
